What is it?
Non-invasive removal of hair with light or laser beams has been a goal for quite some time. We are finally able to achieve permanent hair reduction through the use of several new machines. The basic principle involved is that colored objects such as dark hair can be heated with our modern technology without heating the surrounding skin, thus giving us the ability to selectively damage the hair follicle with heat.
The older method of removing hairs one by one with electrolysis also uses heat, but the heat is generated differently using electricity instead of light. Utilizing light enables us to treat many hairs at once, limited only by the size of the light beam.
Our newest hair removal system is called the Soprano
We're one of the first in the U.S. to have this new technology. Most people find it to be virtually painless and the treatments are fast and effective. Numbing cream is not required for most treatments. (Click for more on the Soprano)
How many treatments will I require?
The number of sessions will vary according to individual factors, as will the success rate. The average patient will want to have 4-5 treatments performed at 5-6 week intervals. We have excellent technicians who have been providing treatments daily since the FDA approved the first laser for hair removal in 1997. They will help you get the most out of each session as well as explain the process thoroughly. Each session generally lasts 30 to 45 minutes.
What are the side effects?
Most side effects are short term. Immediate side effects include some reddening of the skin and localized swelling that goes away fairly quickly. Rarely there may be some minor burning or a pinpoint blister. Blistering can create a lighter or darker spot on the skin. Darkened spots gradually fade over time.
Will the hairs come back?
Our experience indicates that a large percentage of treated hairs remain at least 50-75% clear after several laser treatments.
What is the cost of the procedure?
The fees for laser hair removal are less than you might think. To schedule a complimentary consultation to educate and evaluate which method(s) are most beneficial for you and why, please call our office at (425)899-4144.
