Facial Veins, Vascular Birthmarks and Rosacea

How do we do it?
The Photoderm, Vasculight and Aurora RF lasers make it easier to improve skin quality without surgery, injections or downtime. Treatments can be to the full face, neck, chest or hands, using a combination of pulses of visible light and sometimes radio frequency energy. With these treatments we effectively improve redness and flushing.

Vascular Birthmarks
In many cases we have been able to treat even thick red or purple birthmarks such as port wine stains on the face or body of infants and adults! The treatment is tolerable even in babies, without anesthesia, although more difficult in young children since they do not understand the process. Embarrassing redness, flushing, sun-damaged, and aging skin can be noticeably improved.

Facial Veins and Rosacea
Treatment with these lasers has been very effective and less painful than past treatments for facial redness due to veins, because we can treat a large area of veins with one pulse. A series of treatments, called Fotofacial, can effectively improve facial redness and flushing in fair-skinned individuals. Typically five treatments are done 3 weeks apart.

Discomfort can be minimized by simply applying a topical numbing cream to your skin. Best of all, since it does not remove your skin, there is no downtime for healing; simply apply makeup and go back to work following your treatment. The effects you may experience are redness and mild swelling with only occasional minor bruising.

You can expect to see a gradual decrease in overall redness, flushing and dilated capillaries. People with visible aging from the sun can expect to see their skin become smoother with a decrease in fine lines.

How many treatments?
Usually 2 to 5 treatments are required, depending on the severity of the veins. Each session usually lasts 15 to 30 minutes.

What about side effects?
Most side effects are short-term. Some reddening of the skin and localized swelling usually resolves in 2 to 4 days. Occasionally there can be some bruising, which will disappear over a week or two. Rarely there may be blistering like a bad sunburn.

Who can be treated?
Anyone with fair, light complexion and no tan can be treated with the Photoderm. And some individuals with slightly darker skin can be treated with the Vasculight and Aurora lasers.

Will the veins come back?
Vessels that are completely removed cannot come back, however patients who have a tendency to develop spider veins may develop new ones.
