New!

Zerona™ Non-Invasive Body Slimming

ZERONA™ is a new non-invasive body sculpting procedure designed to remove fat and contour the body without invasive surgery. ZERONA™, unlike other procedures, allows the patient to continue their daily activites without interruptions from surgery, pain, wounds, or garments.

ZERONA™ works by utilizing the Erchonia® Laser Scanner, which is also FDA market cleared for laser assisted liposuction. The Laser Scanner allows for the emulsification of adipose tissue, which releases into the interstitial space. The excess fat is then passed through the body during its normal course of detoxification.

The ZERONA™ procedure was proven through a double-blind, randomized, multi-site, and placebo-controlled study in which patients, on average, lost 3.64 inches from their waist, hips, and thighs. This result is dramatic compared to the placebo group, which only lost an average of half an inch.

Make an appointment today and look slimmer in just two weeks!

(Random cool stem cell and cancer research that I've
come across recently
)

Cutting edge in the field of adult stem cell research is the recent finding that human skin cells can be reprogrammed into liver cells. This will help in the study of liver diseases, but also has obvious potential applicability to regenerate a healthy liver with your own tissues when needed, as liver transplant is such a massive undertaking. Regenerative medicine is the field of producing new organs and body parts from our own cells.

On the cancer front, cancer is often ignored by our immune system, perhaps because the cells are basically our own tissue and hard to differentiate from normal cells. Salmonella bacteria, famous for causing disease, have been injected into melanoma tumors in animals and have served to alert the immune system to the fact that there is a cancer that needs to be destroyed. They can be used in a way that it does not cause illness. Human testing is up next.

Evidence that more cancers are caused by viruses lies in the fact that HIV and organ transplant patients both have increased incidence of cancer. The main thing in common between the two situations is that they are both immunosuppressed, in one case due to the disease and in the other case due to medications, which is felt to allow infection with viruses or bacteria that cause cancer. This implies that many cancers might be avoidable like stomach cancer by treating H. pylori, or preventable with a vaccine, as with the new HPV vaccine for cancer of the cervix, or treatable with a vaccine as is being attempted with melanoma.

Dr. Peter Cooperrider has been in private practice as a Board Certified dermatologist in Kirkland, Washington since 1977.

After starting as a pioneer and helping to develop many of these treatments, Dr. Cooperrider has lectured about lasers on five continents (North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa) and taught several doctors from South America in his office, leaving only Antarctica untouched by his influence! (He says that if he is invited there, he will go.)

Welcome Back

I hope you've had a great summer! We have been busy with vacations and fun.

Post-Summer Skin Check

Now we are thinking about getting back into the routine of fall which means, to dermatologists, getting rid of all that sun damage our patients' skin has incurred while trying to get some natural vitamin D! I'm now regretting all those tans and sunburns I got when I was a teenager. It's definitely showing up and I became more aware of the damage done when I had my full skin check with Angela Fulton, PA-C. Luckily, she caught things before they turned into something bad and Dr. Cooperrider has taught me a lot about laser treatments to improve the appearance of my skin.

What's Popular?

We are continuing to see great results with the Pixel CO2 and our patients are also liking the VI Peel.

The other thing we are excited about is documented results from Coolsculpting. If you haven't already heard about this, it is a new, non-invasive way to gently and effectively reduce fat in targeted areas of your body, resulting in noticeable, natural-looking fat reduction in the treated areas. What makes the Coolsculpting Procedure different is its advanced cooling technology that targets and eliminates fat cells. Unlike traditional invasive surgical procedures, the Coolsculpting Procedure is non-invasive, with no needles and no incisions. There is no need for anesthesia or pain medications and there is no recovery time. It is mainly for those who are fit but have areas of stubborn fat that they can't seem to get rid of. The staff who have tried it have achieved the promised fat loss, about 20% per treatment. In order to know if you are a candidate, you would need to come in and have a complimentary consultation. Or, if you are here seeing one of our PAs, just ask her what she thinks.

What's New?

We are also involved in a study to help a start-up company obtain FDA clearance of a new concept machine for skin-tightening using energy in a similar way to magnetism, or how your electric toothbrush recharges! Dr. Cooperrider loves to experiment with new technology.

What Now?

Besides kayaking and roller-blading (in his Sun-soul shirt and hat, of course) Dr. Cooperrider continues to walk on his treadmill and read the latest. He'll tell you about stem cell and cancer research in his OATS (Occasional Anti-Aging Tidbits).

We hope to see you in our office soon!
