New!

Zerona™ Non-Invasive Body Slimming

ZERONA™ is a new non-invasive body sculpting procedure designed to remove fat and contour the body without invasive surgery. ZERONA™, unlike other procedures, allows the patient to continue their daily activites without interruptions from surgery, pain, wounds, or garments.

ZERONA™ works by utilizing the Erchonia® Laser Scanner, which is also FDA market cleared for laser assisted liposuction. The Laser Scanner allows for the emulsification of adipose tissue, which releases into the interstitial space. The excess fat is then passed through the body during its normal course of detoxification.

The ZERONA™ procedure was proven through a double-blind, randomized, multi-site, and placebo-controlled study in which patients, on average, lost 3.64 inches from their waist, hips, and thighs. This result is dramatic compared to the placebo group, which only lost an average of half an inch.

Which filler should I ask for?

If this is a question in your mind, I would like to address it.

First of all, the purpose of fillers has evolved from what used to be a method to fill specific wrinkles, to what is now considered "volume enhancement." As we age, our facial bones become smaller, and our facial muscle and fat either descends or shrinks causing concave (indented) areas.

In youth we are convex (rounded), so the idea is to return our face to a fuller or convex appearance with fillers. Usually we are aiming for a natural appearance similar to what we looked like in the past, though some patients like to have more fullness than they originally did.

The fillers are much easier and safer and more natural looking than a surgical facelift, so there is a lot less surgery going on these days. They are quite amazing, as you walk out of the office after a fifteen-minute procedure with the facial fullness that you had many years ago! The one similarity between fillers and facelifts is that facelifts always bruise and fillers sometimes bruise, so you have to plan on a week or two of make-up (or not) afterwards.

There are a number of different fillers on the market in the U.S., with more to come as there are many more in other countries that have not been approved here yet. Although the FDA is often guilty of dragging its feet, which ranges from frustrating to a disaster if you are in need of a lifesaving drug, in the case of optional things like fillers I prefer that other countries deal with the unexpected side effects that some products may have. That way, they are sorted out before they arrive on our shores. Once approved by the FDA, there aren't usually any serious side effects to worry about, though occasionally I will decide not to use a particular filler due to what seems like an unacceptable number of minor side effects, like redness or bumps.

In our office we inject about a half dozen different fillers. In many cases they are interchangeable so you can just pick the one that is least expensive or on special. For the lips we recommend one of the hyaluronic acid fillers, either Restylane or Juvederm. We use these in many other areas of the face also. They last 6-12 months, and have the safety advantage that if there is a bump or unevenness it will last a fairly short time (a few months) before going away on its own, or, if desired, there is an injection that will dissolve it. They each have thicker counterparts called Perlane and Juvederm Ultra Plus, which can be used to fill in deeper folds and areas of the face. These hyaluronic acid fillers cost $500-$550, but are often on special for less.

Another popular filler is Radiesse. It is made of calcium similar to what is in our bones, though it stays soft. It comes in a larger syringe for $600, so is sometimes a better value to fill in deep areas. I recently had some put in my face, so now I have cheeks again! If you look at me you won't be able to tell as it looks so natural, but it has restored what was lost. And last but not least there is Artefill, which is a filler that lasts for many years-at 5 years it still looks as good as it did at 5 months. It has been a little slow to be accepted as people were concerned about long-term bumps with a long-term filler, but it hasn't been a problem. It is a bit more expensive at $900 a syringe, but ends up being cheaper in the long run. It is not used in every location-mainly the nasolabial folds that go from the nose to the corner of the lips, and it's a good idea to have experienced a temporary filler first, but if you like the look, this is the one that lasts.

So, that's the basics of fillers. It's not always possible to predict which is best without seeing you, but in many cases they are interchangeable and you can just pick whatever is on special. If there is any reason not to, we can discuss it when you are in the office.

After starting as a pioneer and helping to develop many of these treatments, Dr. Cooperrider has lectured about lasers on five continents (North America, Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa) and taught several doctors from South America in his office, leaving only Antarctica untouched by his influence! (He says that if he is invited there, he will go.)

A Few Words from Dr. Cooperrider...

Hi, I'm Dr Cooperrider and I'd like to welcome you to our website. This is a way for me to say hello to those of you who are new to us, as well as to our old friends.

This month you will have two different occasions to come by our office during lunch and ask us questions about fillers and Latisse combined with some reduced price and free services.

When making a decision about where to go for laser treatment, we think it is important for you to consider that we are physician owned and operated, with a physician on site. We've been here in the same location across from Evergreen Hospital at Totem Lake for over 30 years.

If you've noticed other laser centers or "Medi-spas" going out of business when you need them, you should be reassured when you visit our office. We STARTED the laser treatment trend when we began offering everything from tattoo removal to resurfacing in 1993, and we'll BE there for you if you need us in the future!

Along the way we've participated in the development of methods and laser machines to treat rosacea and veins, brown spots, wrinkle removal--you name it! Most recently we have had success treating melasma with our Pixel.

Where most offices have one or two lasers or devices, we have 15 or 20. We are the SPECIALISTS in laser treatment.

Even in a single area like skin tightening and fractional resurfacing we have several different machines to offer you, from Thermage to the new Pixel fractional CO2 machine.

Of course, I see it as my job to offer the FUTURE to YOU NOW.

In another popular area, we've been injecting Botox and fillers for many years, and have consistently treated more patients than any other office in the state. We are also now using Dysport for the frown lines between the eyebrows and other areas.

We've kept our prices low--we're charging the same for Botox as we did ten years ago. Our fees are competitive with the cut-rate salons and spas with no doctor present. At the same time, we've labored to maintain the highest level of personal care possible. When you're in the room with us, you have 100% of our attention, training, and past experience working for you.

Whether it's a medical issue that you have from acne to skin cancer, or a cosmetic desire to look your best, you are what has made us successful and we never lose sight of that. I'm VERY grateful for all of you who have put your trust in us over the years, and I look forward to seeing you in our office soon!

Sincerely,

Peter A. Cooperrider, M.D.
